Internet File Transfer (XML)

As of January 2006, Internet File Transfer (XML) will be available for the following information returns: Originals and amended - T1204, T4, T4A, T4A-NR, T4RIF and T4RSP; Originals only - T4E. You may also file multiple returns within a single submission (maximum 610 Kb). Clients will require a payroll Business Number (RP) and Web Access Code (WAC) when filing these returns to CRA.

Fisher's income on T4 slip

Currently, you can report fisher's income on either a T4F or T4 slip. For 2006 tax year slips, you must file using a T4 slip only to report this type of income. For more information, see Filing the T4 Slip and Summary Form guide.

For a list of all our technical specifications and File Transfer requirements, see our Technical Specifications page.

Web Access Code

The Web access code is your business identification code, which you need along with your payroll Business Number (RP) to access the secure areas of the T4 Internet filing Web site. You need a new Web access code every year to submit your T4 information return over the Internet.

The Web access code will be printed above the payroll Business Number (RP) on the personalized T4 Summary you receive in the mail.

Electronic Amendments

Since February 2003, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has been accepting cancellations and amendments in electronic format for information slips. You can now file amendments electronically on Magnetic media as well as Web forms or File Transfer (XML).
