Instructions for YOUR TRAVEL ABROAD

The numbering scheme of the explanations provided below corresponds to the numbering scheme of the questions asked.

1. Selecting a country(ies) will help to narrow the search and only links related to your choice will be returned. For example if you select Thailand a link to the Country Travel Report for Thailand and the Canadian Embassy in Thailand will be returned.

2. If you are interested in local attractions, festivals, activities etc. in the area you are visiting, select Tourism. For information about leisure activities such as hiking, kayaking, snowboarding or camping, select Adventure.

3. If you are planning to be away for three months or longer, selecting Yes will return a link to the Registration of Canadians Abroad should you wish to register with the local Canadian Embassy. This link will also be returned automatically if you have selected a country that has a current travel advisory in effect.

4. Selecting the month in which you will be travelling helps narrow the search and only links related to your choice will be returned. In most cases, the month is also related to the destination you have chosen.

5. Many countries require that visitors’ passports be valid for six months beyond their expected date of return. If your current passport is expired or will expire in less than six months select No. In addition, it should be noted that children are now required to have their own passports. If your child’s name appears on a valid parents passport, that will be acceptable until the passport expires or the child reaches sixteen years of age. However, if your child is not on a valid parents passport you cannot have his/her name added. You must apply for his/her own passport.

6. Selecting Yes will bring back links related to Accessible Travel and Transportation.

8. Selecting Yes will return links related to recommended immunizations for travel overseas, locations of travel medicine clinics in Canada and general health precautions and information for travelers.
