The Honourable Tony Valeri
Leader of the Government in the House of Commons
Hamilton East–Stoney Creek (Ontario)
Tony Valeri was first elected to Parliament in 1993 and was re-elected in 1997, 2000 and 2004. In 2003, he was named Minister of Transport. He has served as a member of the Standing Committee on Finance, of the Subcommittee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment and of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and he served as as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates.
In July 1997, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, and completed his term in September 1999, when he was appointed to chair the National Caucus Economic Development Committee.
Before entering political life, Mr. Valeri was president of the Canadian Financial Group Ltd. and was a director of the Independent Life Insurance Brokers of Canada. He and his wife, Terri, have two children.
