February 1, 2001
OTTAWA - Lucienne Robillard, President of the
Treasury Board of Canada, Minister Responsible for Infrastructure and Member of Parliament
for Westmount - Ville-Marie, today tabled in the House of Commons a government-wide report
entitled Managing for Results 2000 and
Departmental
Performance Reports for 83 individual Government of Canada departments and
agencies.
Managing for Results 2000 is the sixth annual report to Parliament. It highlights
the progress made in implementing results-based management and improved reporting to
Parliament. Managing for Results 2000 complements the departmental performance
reports by providing information on interdepartmental initiatives and collaboration with
provinces.
"The Government of Canada is committed to being more results-oriented and more
accountable to the public. This report shows our progress in achieving those
objectives," Madame Robillard stated.
The 2000 Fall Performance Package clearly demonstrates the Government of Canada's
commitment to comprehensive performance reporting, accountability and transparency.
Parliamentarians and the public now have increased access to better performance
information than ever before.
Managing for Results 2000 shows the government has made progress in a number of
key priority areas, including:
- Providing access to a broader range of performance information, including societal
trends on interdepartmental and intergovernmental initiatives;
- providing electronic access to information on government-wide priorities through
performance information maps, a single window to comprehensive information on major policy
areas; and
- an improved Collective Results Database for performance information on interdepartmental
and intergovernmental initiatives.
"Providing these reports strengthens the democratic process. We hope Canadians
will use this comprehensive information to help shape the Canada of the future,"
added the President.
