International Cancer Control Congress
The Public Health Agency of Canada is co-hosting the First International Cancer Control Congress (ICCC), and looks forward to welcoming you to Vancouver, October 23-26, 2005. This Congress will bring together a broad international constituency to share strategies, experiences, tactics and best practices to address the implementation of population-based cancer control. Please take advantage of the early-bird registration rate which is available until August 30, 2005. For further information, please visit the Congress website at http://www.meet-ics.com/cancercontrol/.

Integrated approach to chronic disease
Noncommunicable diseases accounts for most of the causes of death and disease burden in Canada and globally. No one entity can reduce noncommunicable disease alone. Thus an integrated approach to noncommunicable disease is critical to augment and enhance disease specific strategies.

Best Practices
A key component of the Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control capacity to prevent chronic disease and promote healthy living conditions in Canada is our ability to gather and use relevant evidence of 'what works', commonly known as best practices.

Surveillance
Surveillance is an essential component for the planning, implementation, and assessment of chronic disease prevention and control. It is an ongoing collection of data, the integration, analysis, and interpretation of data, and the dissemination of information to those who need to know. Chronic disease surveillance provides relevant information for action.
