Chief Electoral Officer of Canada Announces OTTAWA, Tuesday, January 17, 2006 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Pursuant to subsection 422(1) of the Canada Elections Act, the maximum amount that is allowed for election expenses of a registered political party for an election is the product of $0.70 multiplied by the number of names on the preliminary lists of electors or by the number of names on the revised lists of electors, whichever is greater, for electoral districts for which a registered political party has a confirmed candidate. This amount is then adjusted for inflation. The final expenses limits for the political parties for the 39th general election are as follows:
The Canada Elections Act also establishes limits for the election expenses that may be incurred by candidates. The dollar amounts of the final limits for each riding are available on the Elections Canada Web site at www.elections.ca in the section for the 2006 general election.
