Final List of Confirmed Candidates Now Available at www.elections.ca

OTTAWA, Thursday, January 5, 2006 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, announced today that the final list of confirmed candidates in the 308 electoral districts for the general election on Monday, January 23, 2006, is now posted at www.elections.ca.

"A total of 1,634 persons have been confirmed as candidates," stated Mr. Kingsley.

When a registered party endorses a candidate, the party's name is listed on the ballot under the candidate's name. The following list shows the 15 political parties now registered, with the number of candidates endorsed by each.

There are 85 candidates running as independents and 5 candidates with no affiliation. Among the 1,634 confirmed candidates, 380 are women and 1,254 are men.
