Calculation of the Limit on Expenses for Notices of Nomination Meetings and of the Nomination Campaign Limit |
Calculation of the Limit on Expenses for Notices of Nomination Meetings For the two electoral districts (Acadie–Bathurst and Miramichi) whose boundaries have changed since the 2004 general election, paragraph 478.14(b) of the Canada Elections Act requires that the Chief Electoral Officer determine the relevant nomination campaign expenses limit. These amounts were calculated based on an estimate of what would have been the candidate expenses limits at the previous general election had the new boundaries been in effect for the two electoral districts whose boundaries have changed. The formula to calculate candidate election expenses limits, found in section 440 of the Act, was used with the following adjustments:
The resulting amounts were then multiplied by 1 percent to obtain the limit on expenses for notices of nomination meetings for each of the two electoral districts whose boundaries have changed. The resulting amounts were also multiplied by 20 percent to obtain the nomination campaign limit for each of the two electoral districts whose boundaries have changed. |
