Backgrounder
Fiscal Impact of Government’s Response to Higher Energy Costs

The total cost of the Government of Canada’s response to high energy costs is $2.438 billion over five years. Of this amount, $1.333 billion is newly committed funding, while the remainder is from existing sources of funding.

Table 1 shows the cost of each element in the package, while Table 2 illustrates the sources of the funds. All figures are over five years unless otherwise indicated.
