Welcome to Government On-Line @ Industry Canada

Introduction

In its Throne Speech of 1999, the Federal Government committed to becoming more connected with citizens by using the Internet to improve access to government information and services. The Federal Budgets of 2000 and 2001 challenged departments and agencies to offer all of their most commonly used services and information on-line by 2005. Industry Canada rose to the Government On-Line (GOL) challenge by identifying 17 key departmental service areas and meeting its GOL objectives – two years in advance of the government’s 2005 goal.

Industry Canada's key services bring a world of information and services to the department’s clients. Simple features such as on-line forms and interactive applications offer clients faster transactions, accelerated decision making, extended hours of service availability, increased functionality, and added value. For this department, GOL has meant designing systems for the client, working with the client, and listening to the client.

This commitment to client needs has helped many of Industry Canada’s on-line services to rank among the most mature services in government. The department’s contributions to Internet service delivery have also helped Canada to place first among other nations for each of the past four years in Accenture’s survey of e-Government Leadership.

The following report describes each of Industry Canada’s 17 key service areas, their on-line offerings, their achievements for 2004, and their goals for the future. Industry Canada remains committed to meeting the needs of its clients and will continue to innovate in on-line service delivery and service transformation into the future.
