THE HONOURABLE DIANE MARLEAU

Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for the Canadian Wheat Board

Sudbury (Ontario)

First elected as Member of Parliament for Sudbury in 1988, Diane Marleau was re-elected in 1993, 1997, 2000 and 2004.  She has held the posts of Minister of Public Works and Government Services, Minister of Health, and Minister for International Cooperation and Minister responsible for La Francophonie.  Re-elected as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade in February 2004, she has also served as a Member of the Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development.


THE HONOURABLE HEDY FRY

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration and the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, with special emphasis on the Internationally Trained Workers Initiative

Vancouver Centre (British Columbia)

Hedy Fry was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 and was re-elected in 1997, 2000 and 2004.  In 2003, she was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration with special emphasis on Foreign Credentials.  She has served as Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women) from 1996 to January 2002, and as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health from 1993 to 1996.  She has been a member of the Standing Committee on Health and of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.


THE HONOURABLE ROBERT G. THIBAULT

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health

West Nova (Nova Scotia)

Robert G. Thibault was first elected to the House of Commons in 2000 and was re-elected in 2004.  Before becoming Minister of Fisheries and Oceans on Jan. 15, 2002, he served as Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency).  He has been active in municipal government, serving the District of Argyle as clerk-treasurer, and the region of Clare, Nova Scotia, as an elected municipal councillor.

Mr. Thibault has also been an involved member of his community.  He was chair of the board of governors of Université Sainte-Anne and is a past president of a number of associations, including the Association of Municipal Administrators, the Acadian Federation of Nova Scotia and the Clare Chamber of Commerce.  He has been a small business owner and has worked as an economic advisor and regional coordinator for the Acadian Federation of Nova Scotia.


THE HONOURABLE CLAUDE DROUIN

Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister with special emphasis on Rural Communities

Beauce (Quebec)

Claude Drouin was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997 and was re-elected in 2000 and 2004.  Most recently, he was Minister of State (Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec).  He has also been a member of the Official Languages Committee and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry.  During his first term, he was a member of the Standing Committee on Transportation and a member of the Standing Committee on Finance.


THE HONOURABLE GERRY BYRNE

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs

Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte (Newfoundland and Labrador)

Gerry Byrne was first elected to the House of Commons in a by-election in March 1996, and was re-elected in the 1997, 2000, 2003 general elections.  In 2003 he became Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health for Drug Review Agency.  He was appointed Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) in January 2002.  Prior to his Cabinet appointment, Mr. Byrne served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, and was a member of the House of Commons Standing Committees on Public Accounts, Transport and Government Operations, Fisheries and Oceans, and Natural Resources.


THE HONOURABLE ARNOLD WAYNE EASTER

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food with special emphasis on Rural Development

Malpeque (Prince Edward Island)

Wayne Easter was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993.  In 2002, he was appointed as Solicitor General of Canada.  He has also held the post of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.  Mr. Easter was also a member of the Prime Minister's Task Force on the Future of Farming and has served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans.  Mr. Easter has been a member of the Standing Committee of Agriculture and Agri-Food and is Vice-Chair of the Canada-U.S. Parliamentary Association.


THE HONOURABLE JOHN McKAY

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance

Scarborough–Guildwood (Ontario)

John McKay was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997.  He has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance with special emphasis on Public-Private Partnerships, as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights, and as a member of the Subcommittee on Organized Crime, the Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, and the Economic Development Caucus.


THE HONOURABLE JERRY PICKARD

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry

Chatham Kent Essex (Ontario)

Jerry Pickard was first elected to the House of Commons in 1988.  In 2003, he was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.  He has served as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration and a member of the Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament and the Industry Committee.  Mr. Pickard was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and to the Minister of Public Works and Government Services.


THE HONOURABLE GURBAX SINGH MALHI

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue

Bramalea Gore Malton (Ontario)

Gurbax S. Malhi was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993.  In 2003, he became Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry with special emphasis on Entrepreneurs and New Canadians.  Previously, Mr. Malhi was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labour.  He has also served as a member of the standing committees on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, Industry, Scrutiny of Regulations, Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights, and Government Operations.


THE HONOURABLE LARRY BAGNELL

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources

Yukon

Larry Bagnell was first elected to the House of Commons in November 2000 and was re-elected in 2004.  Most recently, he served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development with special emphasis on Northern Economic Development.  He has served as a member of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources, and as a member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.


THE HONOURABLE WALT LASTEWKA

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Works and Government Services

St. Catharines (Ontario)

Walt Lastewka was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 and was re-elected in 1997, 2000 and 2004.  In 2003, he was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Works and Government Services with special emphasis on Procurement Review.  He has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, Caucus Advocate on Small and Medium Enterprises, and Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.


THE HONOURABLE DAN McTEAGUE

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs

Pickering Scarborough East (Ontario)

First elected to the House of Commons in 1993, Dan McTeague served as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology and as a member of the Standing Committee on Official Languages.  Before being named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs with special emphasis on Canadians Abroad in 2003, he passed several bills into law including the first organ donor bill, a bill to make fleeing from police officers in a motor vehicle an offence, and two amendments to the Competition Act.

A bilingual MP, Mr. McTeague is married to Dr. Daniela Rossi and together have three children.


THE HONOURABLE MARK EYKING

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade with special emphasis on Emerging Markets

Sydney Victoria (Nova Scotia)

Since his election to the House of Commons in November 2000, Mr. Eyking has been a member of the Liberal Rural Caucus and was appointed to the Prime Minister’s Caucus Task Force on Future Opportunities in Agriculture.  In 2003, he was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.  Mr. Eyking also served on the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food, and on the Subcommittee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.


THE HONOURABLE ELENI BAKOPANOS

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Social Development with special emphasis on Social Economy

Ahuntsic (Quebec)

First elected in 1993, Eleni Bakopanos was re-elected in the 1997, 2000 and 2004 general elections.  Most recently, she was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development with special emphasis on Social Economy.  From 1997 to 1999, Ms. Bakopanos served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.  She has chaired the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, and vice-chaired the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage.  Ms. Bakopanos has also been a member of the committees on House Procedures, and on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.


THE HONOURABLE SHAWN MURPHY

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans

Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island)

Shawn Murphy was elected to the House of Commons in 2000 and re-elected in 2004.  In 2003, he was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans with special emphasis on the Oceans Action Plan.  He has served as a member of the Standing Committee on Finance and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.


THE HONOURABLE JIM KARYGIANNIS

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and Minister responsible for Democratic Renewal

Scarborough Agincourt (Ontario)

First elected in 1988, Jim Karygiannis has served as a member of the Joint Standing Committee on the Library of Parliament, and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.  In 2003, he was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport with special emphasis on Transportation and Environment.


THE HONOURABLE SUSAN BARNES

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians

London West (Ontario)

Sue Barnes was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 and was re-elected in 1997, 2000 and 2004.  In 2003, she was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada with special emphasis on Judicial Transparency and Aboriginal Justice.  She served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance and has also been Chair of the Federal Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.  She has also served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and was a member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.  She was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue.


THE HONOURABLE PETER ADAMS
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development

Peterborough (Ontario)
   
Peter Adams was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993.  Most recently, he was Chair of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs.  In July 1997, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and was re-appointed in July 1998.  He has served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.  He has also been a member of the Resources, Oceans and Environment Caucus as well as a member of the standing committees on Environment and Sustainable Development and on Industry, Science and Technology.


THE HONOURABLE KEITH MARTIN

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence

Esquimalt Juan de Fuca (British Columbia)

Keith Martin was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 and re-elected in 1997, 2000 and 2004.  He has served on the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.  He is a medical doctor, obtaining his bachelor of science and medical degrees from the University of Toronto.


THE HONOURABLE PADDY TORSNEY

Paddy Torsney was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993.  She chaired the Special Committee on the Nonmedical use of Drugs, and has served as Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee and as a member of the Industry Committee. She has also been Chair of the Sub-Committee on Electoral Boundaries and Vice-Chair of the Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committees.  She has also served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Environment.

Etobicoke North (Ontario)

Roy Cullen was first elected to the House of Commons in a March 1996 by-election and was re-elected in the general elections of 1997, 2000 and 2004.  Most recently, he was elected Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance. From 1999 to 2001 he served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and has been Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Transport. He has also served on the standing committees on Government Operations and Estimates and on Official Languages.


THE HONOURABLE SARMITE BULTE

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for the Status of Women and the Minister of Industry, with special emphasis on Women Entrepreneurs

Parkdale–High Park (Ontario)

Sarmite Bulte was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997.  She served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage from August 2000 to January 2003.  She has been a member of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage and of the Standing Committee on Official Languages.  She was also a member of the Prime Minister's Task Force on Youth Entrepreneurs, the Liberal Caucus Task Force on Financial Institutions and the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration.


THE HONOURABLE JUDI LONGFIELD

Judi Longfield was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997.  In the past, she has been the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labour as well as Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.  Most recently she was the Chair of the Liaison Committee and Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities. She was also a permanent member of the Procedure and House Affairs Committee.


THE HONOURABLE BRYON WILFERT

Richmond Hill (Ontario)

Bryon Wilfert was first elected to the House of Commons in the 1997.  From February 2002 to December 2003, Mr. Wilfert was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and was a member of the Standing Committee on Finance.  Most recently, he was a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, of
the All Party Sport and Physical Activity Caucus and of the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs.  Mr. Wilfert was also a member of the Prime Minister's caucus Task Force on Urban Issues in 2003.


THE HONOURABLE DOMINIC LeBLANC

Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons

Beauséjour (New Brunswick)

Dominic LeBlanc was elected to the House of Commons in November 2000 and re-elected in 2004.  Since then, he has served on the Special Committee on Non-Medical Use of Drugs and the standing committees on Fisheries and Oceans, on Transport and Government Operations, on National Defence and Veterans Affairs, and on Public Accounts.  He has also served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence and was Chair of the Atlantic Caucus.

Paul Macklin was first elected to the House of Commons in 2000.  He has served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, as Vice-Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on the Scrutiny of Regulations, and as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.  In addition, Mr. Macklin served as a member of the Prime Minister’s Caucus Task Force on Future Opportunities in Farming.

Raymond Simard was first elected to the House of Commons in a federal by-election on May 13, 2002, and was re-elected in 2004. He has been a member of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities and Vice - Chair of the Subcommittee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment, and the Committee on Official Languages.

Charles Hubbard was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993.  He has served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and has served on several committees, including: as Chair of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food and of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans; and as a member of the Standing Committee on Finance, the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development, the Standing Committee on Transport, and the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources.


THE HONOURABLE ANITA NEVILLE

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women with special emphasis on status of women

Anita Neville was first elected to the House of Commons in 2000.  Since 2004, she has served as Chair of both the Standing Committee on the Status of Women and the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee of the Status of Women.  Prior to that, she had been Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources and was a member of several other Standing Committees including: Citizenship and Immigration, Human Resources Development, National Defence and Veterans Affairs, Environment and Sustainable Development, and Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.


THE HONOURABLE NAVDEEP SINGH BAINS

Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister

Mississauga - Brampton South (Ontario)

Navdeep Bains was first elected to the House of Commons in June, 2004.  He has served on the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Human Rights and International Development and, in April 2005, was elected Chair.  He has also been a member of the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics.  Mr. Bains is a member of the Canada-U.S., Canada-Croatia, Canada-India, and Canada-Taiwan Friendship Groups.
