In order for you to request a Personal Access Code (PAC) and/or login and use the Canada Pension Plan "Statement of Contributions" online service or the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security "View and Update Personal Information" online service, you need to provide us with certain personal information. This Privacy Notice Statement explains the rules we follow when collecting, using and disclosing your personal information. Since your privacy is important to us, we will confirm your identity by matching the information you submit on the Login page with information we already have in the Social Insurance Register, our Canada Pension Plan and/or Old Age Security program records.

Authority for collection, use and disclosure

The collection, use and disclosure of personal information for this service is authorized and regulated by the Canada Pension Plan Act, the Old Age Security Act, and the Employment Insurance Act. In certain limited cases, the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security Acts allow information that is collected to be disclosed without your consent for purposes not outlined in this Privacy Notice Statement.

Purpose of collection

The information we ask for is required in order for you to request a PAC and/or to login and view your personal Canada Pension Plan "Statement of Contributions" online or use the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security "View and Update Personal Information" online service. Since your privacy is very important to us, we will confirm your identity by matching the information you submit on the Login page with the information we already have in our Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security program records.

Retention of information

Your personal information will be held in the following Social Development Canada Personal Information Banks: HRDC PPU 146, HRDC PPU 140, HRDC PPU 116 and HRDC PPU 390. Your personal information will be retained for the period of time required by the Canada Pension Plan and the Old Age Security Acts.

Accessing your information

The information you provide is protected under the Privacy Act, which states that you have the right to see your personal information and request changes to incorrect information. Instructions for obtaining this information are outlined in the government publication InfoSource.

If you require clarification about the collection, use and disclosure of the personal information described in this Privacy Notice Statement, or if you have questions or comments regarding the administration of the Privacy Act in our department, please contact our Privacy Coordinator.

Protection of your information

Social Development Canada is taking the necessary measures to protect all personal information you provide.

There are two major ways that we ensure the security of your transactions:

  1. Encryption is the technology that protects your information when being transmitted between your computer and our servers. This minimizes the risk that others can view or alter the information being transmitted. You must be using a web browser with 128-bit encryption to access this site. Our encryption system does not function on email. Email should never be used to send confidential information.
  2. Firewalls allow us to prevent unauthorized access to our internal computer systems and databases.

When you use our services, we do not automatically collect the information you enter. The information you provide is only collected when you submit it.

This web site occasionally uses "session cookies" to track how our visitors use the site. These "cookies" reside on the web browser and expire as soon as the visitor closes the browser. The cookies we use do not allow us to identify individuals. The information they collect is compiled into statistics on traffic patterns, which are used to assess site efficiency.
