The National Conference on Caregiving took place October 17-18, 2005, in Gatineau, Quebec. Sponsored by Social Development Canada (SDC), and organized with support from the Canadian Caregiver Coalition, the conference attracted more than 215 participants from across Canada, who came together to discuss and build support for developing a strategy to support Canadian caregivers.
To meet its commitment to report back to Canadians on the conference’s results, SDC has prepared a summary of proceedings of the conference, which outlines the key issues and recommended actions participants discussed during the conference.

December 5, 2005 marks International Volunteer Day and Canadians are reminded of the value volunteers bring to Canadian communities.
Canada's 6.5 million volunteers play a vital role in helping secure and strengthen Canada's social and economic foundations. Their determination and dedication demonstrate the power that each one of us has to improve our communities.
If you know an outstanding lifelong volunteer – someone who has improved the lives of his or her fellow citizens, we invite you or your voluntary organization to submit a nomination for the Thérèse Casgrain Volunteer Award. The award was established to commemorate the work of Thérèse Casgrain, the force behind various social reforms and an ardent advocate of justice and equality. The call for nominations closes on February 1, 2006.
