FACT SHEET

Final Report: Review of HRDC's Sustainable Development Strategy
(Project no. 474/98, May 1999)

Audits and reviews are ongoing management tools used by HRDC to assess how it can improve the effectiveness of its activities and get better results.

  • This was a review.
  • HRDC's 1998-99 Audit and Evaluation Plan included an internal audit of the Department's Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS) to inform senior management on the status of SDS implementation and to identify opportunities to provide assistance with its implementation.
  • The final report led the Department to put in place new structures and processes to improve implementation of the SDS and develop performance measures.

Management Response

  • A work plan has been developed and a Working Group established. Performance measures have been developed. An Environmental Management System has been developed and will be rolled-out across the Department in 2000-01.
  • The question of how to integrate sustainable development issues into the policy development process will be studied this year.
