Reviews and Audits
conducted by HRDC's Internal Audit Bureau

FACT SHEET

HRDC Year 2000 Project:
Risk Assessment of Mission Critical National Applications; Infrastructure and Operations - National Report - Update No. 3
Risk Assessment of Mission Critical and Non-Mission Critical National Applications: Products and Linkages - Update No. 4, Update No. 5
(Project no. 964/98, December 1998, March 1999, October 1999)

Audits and reviews are ongoing management tools used by HRDC to assess how it can improve the effectiveness of its activities and get better results.

  • The final three Risk Assessment Report updates on HRDC's Year 2000 Project were presented to the Audit Evaluation Committee as part of an ongoing Systems Under Development (SUD) audit that was initiated in 1997/98. The first two updates were published in January and May 1998.
  • The reports cover the entire Department, applications groups and specific regions, with the scope of the reports narrowing over time as specific systems were evaluated as being Y2K compliant.
  • These risk assessments and other administrative reports assisted HRDC in ensuring that all its mission critical computer systems were compliant with Y2K requirements.

Management Response

  • There were no significant system difficulties encountered by HRDC on January 1 or on February 29, 2000.
  • The SUD audit enabled the Department to prioritize activities re: Y2K compliance in accordance with an evaluation of risk for each of the more than 2000 IT products in use by HRDC and other federal and provincial departments.
  • The Internal Audit Bureau made timely recommendations to various program areas based on the level of risk associated with specific IT products. This feedback was invaluable in assisting programs to achieve full Y2K compliance in advance of established deadlines.
