Program Objectives

  • To support international mobility opportunities for Canadian students;
  • To develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies that will ensure the successful participation of young Canadians in the global economy;
  • To improve the quality of Canadian human resource development;
  • To explore ways of preparing students for work in the global economy by promoting intercultural understanding, language skills, and awareness of international issues and business practices;
  • To improve and augment student mobility (both actual and virtual), including the recognition and portability of academic credits and the development of joint curriculum;
  • To support the development of academic co-operation and institutional linkages among universities, colleges, technical institutes, and private businesses; and
  • To encourage the exchange of expertise in new developments in higher education and training, including the use of distance education.

How does it work?

Duration

Projects are funded for three or four years.

Financial Parameters

Eligible cost categories:

  • Student mobility
  • Internationalization activities of partner institutions
  • Project administration

Who is Eligible for Funding

Canadian higher education or training institutions.


How to Apply?

  • An annual call for proposals is issued several months in advance of the application deadline.
  • The same application process occurs simultaneously in Europe for the Canada-European Union Program and in the United States and Mexico for the North American Program.
  • A common joint proposal is submitted to Human Resources and Skills Development Canada by the lead institution in Canada and one is also submitted to other participating regions by their lead institutions. For example, under the North American Program, a common joint proposal is submitted to Canada, Mexico, and the United States by lead institutions in each country.
  • Program guidelines and application forms accompany the annual call for proposals
