The WSS is a long-term, sustained strategy to be implemented in phases.
In the first phase, the Government is investing $125 million to implement three early initiatives of the WSS.
Workplace Skills Initiative
The Workplace Skills Initiative (WSI) promotes and tests new and innovative approaches to skills development; encouraging employers to invest in the skills of their employees, and informing Government of Canada labour market policy and programming as to what works and what is effective.
Workplace Partners Panel
The Workplace Partners Panel (WPP) is an arm’s-length body made up of business and labour champions. The WPP will help galvanize industry leadership and commitment in addressing workplace skills issues, providing increased investment and raising awareness around best practices and innovative approaches.
Trades and Apprenticeship Strategy
The Trades and Apprenticeship Strategy (TAS) will help focus national attention on the challenges skilled trades are facing, given demographic trends, rising and changing skills demands, and the need to have a mobile and adaptable work force. As this is an area of provincial/territorial responsibility, we will work closely with the provinces and territories and stakeholders to address these challenges. (To be announced at a later date.) |
