Working together to enhance the vitality of official language minority communities!

Our Mission

Recognize the Francophone and Acadian communities outside Quebec and the Anglophone community in Quebec as target audiences, in accordance with the Official Languages Act, in order to provide them with access to Human Resources Development Canada programs and services.

Our Mandate

The mandate of the Secretariat, Official Language Minority Communities (SOLMC), is to coordinate the efforts of Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) in implementing section 41 of Part VII of the Official Languages Act Government of Canada site.

HRDC consults the minority language communities on an ongoing basis through SOLMC. SOLMC also promotes the programs and services offered by HRDC to official language minority communities to support and promote the development of the communities. It ensures close cooperation among the regions, various divisions at National Headquarters and other departments to support local projects.

Finally, each year SOLMC submits HRDC's action plans and a status report on the implementation of section 41 to Parliament, through the Department of Canadian Heritage.
