Marine Ecosystem Studies

Aquatic ecosystems will be studied to document ecosystem dynamics and the role specific habitats have for important (exploited, keystone) selected species.  Activities will include determining how habitat availability varies over time and the effect this has on species, and documenting how species respond to human impacts on habitats.  Projects currently underway include Queen Charlotte Islands and Central Coast marine plant response to experimental urchin perturbation, eel grass bed delineation around Vancouver Island, and the habitat needs of different Dungeness crab life history stages.
