Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), Newfoundland and Labrador Region plans to officially celebrate the commissioning of two new lifeboats on the west coast of the province. The CCG will commission the Canadian Coast Guard Cutter (CCGC) Cape Norman in a ceremony at the Coast Guard Station in Port aux Choix on Monday, June 27, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. and will commission the Canadian Coast Guard Cutter (CGCC) Cape Fox at the Coast Guard Station in Lark Harbour on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 10:30 a.m.

In May 2003, the CCG took possession of two 47-foot Type B Lifeboats, the Cape Norman and Cape Fox. Both vessels were constructed under the Government of Canada’s Search and Rescue (SAR) Program Integrity Initiative. The vessels operate from May to October on a 30-minute state of readiness with 24 hours a day, seven days a week coverage. CCGC Cape Norman operates primarily in the area from Cow Head north to Cape Bauld along the west coast of the island of Newfoundland. CCGC Cape Fox operates primarily in the area from Port aux Basques north to Cow Head on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland.
