Public invited to review a draft salmon stock recovery plan for Ragged Harbour River

St. John’s… Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and the Ragged Harbour River Conservation Group are inviting the public to participate in the review of a proposed Atlantic Salmon Conservation Plan for Ragged Harbour River. The meetings will be held at the following locations and dates:

Meeting Locations:

November 3 at 7:30 p.m. Musgrave Harbour Musgrave Harbour Fire Hall
November 4 at 7:30 p.m. Carmanville Wetlands Interpretation Centre

The proposed conservation plan was prepared by the Ragged Harbour River Conservation Group, a committee of volunteers formed from participants at public meetings held in May 2002 in Musgrave Harbour, Carmanville, Lumsden, and Gander.

Despite the efforts of various fisheries management plans, there has been a serious decline in the Ragged Harbour River salmon stock in recent years. The recommendations contained in the proposed conservation plan are in response to concerns expressed by the public.

The final draft of the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Plan will be presented to DFO, Salmonid Advisory Committee in early December.
