CAPS System Overview

Welcome to the Capital Asset Planning System Website

The Capital Asset Planning System (CAPS) is a comprehensive web-based software application designed to assist PWGSC and its clients in managing the condition and performance of their asset portfolio. This comprehensive capital asset planning software tool offers an exceptionally organized, efficient and user-friendly way of storing, managing and analyzing data. CAPS acts as a repository for data from Building Condition Reports (Levels 2 and 3), Appraisals, Asset Management Plans (AMPs) and the AMP Summaries and allows access to this information in a "live" easily accessible format. Information is available on building elements, entire building information and key government programs, and can be defined at the building level, portfolio level, by region and by client.

Configured in both official languages, this web based application can help in the management and analysis of data from asset to portfolio levels and will help support strategic asset directions and decisions supporting Treasury Board recommendations. Through the "Program of Works", CAPS can aid in the reduction of construction costs thought economies of scale by identifying opportunities for grouping projects.

It also gives Property and Facility managers a tool for better forecasting projects to be included in the BMP, for its five year planning horizon, thus improving the allocation of monies.

Logon to the database

The database is now fully operational and training is being offered Nationally in 2005. Data has been populated for a large portion of PWGSC owned and lease-purchase facilities and we are looking to expand into other asset types. If you would like access to CAPS and/ or training on using CAPS for reporting purposes please contact: NCR CAPS SPIB

We would be pleased to assist you!
