Information Technology Services (ITS) provides common telecommunications and informatics services to government departments, agencies and organizations, to facilitate universal access to information throughout the federal government.

Focussing on network and computer services, telecommunications, and application development, ITS is a key player in government-wide initiatives such as the Secure Channel, IM/IT community renewal, and Government On-Line (GoL).

ITS is examining how it can transform its current services, infrastructure and people into an enterprise-focused, operationally excellent IT service provider for the Government of Canada, to enable the delivery of consistent, high-quality, cost-effective services to the Canadian public.

Did you know that ITS:

• manages some 250 major software applications on behalf of various departments
• operates 5 data centres consolidating services for 47 departments and agencies
• manages 3 cheque production facilities handling over 120 million mailings a year
• is responsible for electronic messaging systems that handle over 2 million messages per month
• manages contracts for satellite-based, mobile and fixed communication services for 30 departments
• is responsible for the Secure Channel Network (SCNet) - a telecommunications network connecting over 120 departments and agencies and delivering more than 130 on-line services to Canadian individuals
• provides education, professional development, and knowledge transfer for approximately 12,000 federal employees in the government IM/IT community
• manages data networks for over 30 departments; including the brokering of over 4,900 data circuits across Canada
• makes it possible for government departments located in the National Capital Region to enjoy the lowest local phone service rates in Canada
