As Minister of State (Infrastructure and Communities), I wish to welcome you to the Research Gateway.

Research is a fundamental building block for good public policy and decision making.  It is also a key element in the Government of Canada’s commitment to advancing the New Deal for Cities and Communities and modernizing public infrastructure across the country.

One of my main priorities as Minister of State (Infrastructure and Communities) is to ensure that research and analysis continue to be essential elements of this department.  Since its launch in October 2003, the Research Gateway has been increasingly recognized as a focal point for research on infrastructure and communities.

You will find many valuable resources on the Gateway, including:

• A selection of reports and publications produced by Infrastructure Canada, including Research Studies, Research Précis, Research Notes, Articles, results from Workshops and Roundtables and Heritage Moments;
• The Register of Research, a compendium of research on infrastructure, cities and communities being conducted within the Government of Canada; and
• Links to reports and publications by other organizations with links to infrastructure and communities research.

In addition to these valuable online resources you will find information about Infrastructure Canada’s multidisciplinary Research, Knowledge and Outreach (RKO) funding initiative.  This initiative is an integral tool to facilitate our commitment to fostering the knowledge base and networks necessary for Canada to become a frontrunner in research on infrastructure and communities issues.  Details about the Knowledge-building, Outreach and Awareness (KOA) program and results from the first call for proposals, as well as the Peer Reviewed Research Studies (PRRS) program, are available on the Gateway.

I encourage you to explore the Research Gateway to learn more about Canada’s infrastructure and communities.
