Before Applying to PRRS

How do I know if my research proposal addresses the department’s interests?

Research proposals must address one or more of PRRS’ objectives as well as one or more of Infrastructure Canada’s research priorities.

What do you mean by public infrastructure?

The term "infrastructure" can mean many things to many people, but simply stated, investing in infrastructure means investing in "public assets that support public services." For more information you should refer to Infrastructure Canada's website. You may also wish to have a look at a recent INFC research report on what public infrastructure means in the Government of Canada which is available at: http://www.infrastructure.gc.ca/research-recherche/rresul/wr/wr08_e.shtml.

Can I discuss my proposal with, or have it reviewed by INFC, SSHRC, or NSERC officials before submitting it?

Under the processes established by Infrastructure Canada, SSHRC, and NSERC for the PRRS program and in order to ensure fairness, officials from the three organizations are not able to review or provide comments on any specific proposals.

Are multi-year projects eligible?

Funding may be provided for research to be undertaken over a period of up to three years. Your proposal should accurately reflect the cash flow requirements for each year of the project based on the activities undertaken or products created in each year.

Are federal government organizations eligible?

No. Departments, Agencies, Crown Corporations, Members of the House of Commons and employees of the Government of Canada are not eligible for contributions under PRRS.

Do we need to submit a letter of interest?

No, there is no need to submit a letter of interest for PRRS.

When is the deadline for submitting a proposal for this round of funding?

The first call for proposals under the PRRS program closed September 30, 2005. We thank you for your interest and encourage you to continue to visit the Research Gateway for further updates and announcements about future competitions.

Is there an application form?

Yes. Application forms are accessible on the Research Gateway.

Can an organization submit more than one proposal?

While there is no limit to the number of proposals an organization can choose to submit, the maximum contribution per recipient under PRRS is $250,000. Therefore, should there be multiple successful proposals from one organization, total funding to that one organization cannot exceed $250,000.

How many requests for proposals do you have per year?

Proposals will be reviewed approximately once a year. Deadlines for future rounds will be announced on the Research Gateway and on SSHRC’s web site.
