NEW GRAND FALLS RAMPS ADDED TO TRANS-CANADA HIGHWAY PROJECT

GRAND FALLS, New Brunswick - New westbound traffic highway ramps onto Portage Road will be built in Grand Falls as part of the Trans-Canada Highway project, Transportation Minister Paul Robichaud and Tobique-Mactaquac Member of Parliament Andy Savoy announced today.

One ramp will be an exit off the new four-lane Trans-Canada Highway onto Portage Road and into central Grand Falls. The other ramp will be an access ramp from Portage Road onto the Trans-Canada Highway for westbound traffic.

“These new ramps will provide for a safe, easy and convenient access to central Grand Falls,” Robichaud said. “This announcement would not have been made possible without the collaboration of the Town of Grand Falls and the local business community.”

“This project shows the people of Grand Falls how the federal and provincial governments can work together on infrastructure that benefits the community,” Savoy said.

The design and construction of the ramps will be added to the scope of the Trans-Canada Highway project and within the existing agreement, which includes the design and construction of 98 kilometres of highway, and the operation, maintenance and rehabilitation of 275 kilometres of highway.

The project is being jointly funded by the federal and provincial governments through the Canada-New Brunswick Agreement on the Completion of the Twinning of the Trans-Canada Highway in New Brunswick.

The completion of the four-lane Trans-Canada Highway in 2007 is an action priority within the building strategic infrastructure building block in Greater Opportunity: New Brunswick's Prosperity Plan.
