Honourable Geoff Regan
Minister of Fisheries and Oceans
Riding: Halifax West (Nova Scotia)
On July 20, 2004, Geoff Regan was re-appointed as the
Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and as the Regional Minister for Nova
Scotia, positions he has held since December 12, 2003.
Geoff is currently serving his third term as the
Member of Parliament for Halifax West.
Geoff also sits on six Cabinet committees: Domestic
Affairs; Aboriginal Affairs; Global Affairs; Security, Public Health and
Emergencies; the ad-hoc committee on Sustainability and the Environment;
and the Treasury Board sub-committee on Service Canada.
Geoff is a proud Nova Scotian who has dedicated his
life to serving the people of his province. He has earned a reputation as an
open, accessible and hardworking Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister.
Before entering public life, Geoff practiced law and
was an active community volunteer.
Geoff obtained his Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie
University in 1983 and was admitted to the Nova Scotia Barrister’s Society
in 1984. Prior to that, he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from St.
Francis Xavier University in 1980.
Geoff and his wife Kelly live in Bedford with their
three children and continue to be very active in their community.
