Infrastructure Canada has established a multidisciplinary Research, Knowledge and Outreach (RKO) funding initiative to enhance the implementation of its Research Strategy and to help ensure that policies and decisions about infrastructure and communities issues are supported by a stronger and more integrated knowledge base.  An improved knowledge base on infrastructure and communities issues is vital to developing evidence-based policy, supporting results-based decision making and setting appropriate priorities.

RKO will also encourage the development and maintenance of a strong research community on infrastructure and communities issues and foster better exchange of information and knowledge in this area amongst policy makers, experts, practitioners, communities, non-governmental organizations, industry and the general public.

Through the RKO initiative, Infrastructure Canada is currently able to provide funding under both the Peer Reviewed Research Studies (PRRS) program and the Knowledge-building, Outreach and Awareness (KOA) program.
