$3.6 Million To Fund Infrastructure Canada Research and Outreach Projects

Infrastructure Canada is pleased to announce $3.6 million in funding over the next three years as a result of the first call for proposals under the department’s new Knowledge-building, Outreach and Awareness (KOA) program. This funding and the activities it supports, represent an important contribution to knowledge and awareness building on infrastructure and communities issues.

The first call for proposals under the KOA program was issued in December 2004 and over 160 proposals were received, twice the anticipated number.  The proposals were all evaluated through a merit-based, competitive process, which drew on outside technical experts and advice.

Contribution agreements have now been signed with the proponents of the top ten proposals from the first call.  The funded projects will contribute to a broader understanding of current and future infrastructure and communities issues of importance to Canadians.

Summary information on the ten projects funded under the first round is now available.

Infrastructure Canada recently completed a second call for proposals under the KOA program, which closed on September 15, 2005.  For more information on this and other INFC research activities please visit the Research Gateway.
