Welcome to The Way Forward News, an electronic newsletter designed to keep you informed about changes to the services provided to you by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).

As you know, as part of Budget 2005, the Government of Canada introduced fundamental changes to the way it purchases goods and services and manages its office properties. These government-wide changes are being led by PWGSC and affect every department, most immediately in the area of procurement.

Procurement reform is a key component of the government's Management Agenda to improve management and accountability, save money and reallocate savings to higher priorities. Over the past few months, PWGSC and Treasury Board have worked with departments to establish realistic and achievable savings targets and to begin implementing new tools and processes to help reach those targets. By working together there is an opportunity for all organizations to achieve savings beyond those targets and to benefit from the additional savings. The Way Forward News is one way we will endeavour to keep you and your colleagues informed of changes happening in procurement.

Changes to procurement and office accommodation are part of PWGSC’s major transformation agenda called The Way Forward. The Way Forward Web site offers more information about this initiative.
