About SAKMS
Fast, simple and cost-effective. The Internet is the preferred
route to exchange electronic information and conduct commercial
transactions. To implement electronic commerce in government, departments
need two types of security services - Confidentiality services and
Signature-based services. Public Works and Government Services Canada
(PWGSC) has the solution: Secure Applications and Key Management
Service (SAKMS), a robust Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) security
solution.
SAKMS provides the following core services:
- CA services including directory services
- LRA training and certification
- User Group
The following SAKMS services will be released in the near future
as part of the enhanced SAKMS web security services:
- On-line registration and self-administration
- Web support and authentication
- Enrolment interface and central mapping database
- PIN distribution
The SAKMS services, which include the core and Web solutions, provide
a security level of "Protected B" in order to prevent
unauthorized disclosures of information that may violate the Privacy
Act or the Government of Canada security policy.
The enterprise solution is based on a face-to-face model using
the Local Registration Authorities (LRA), therefore, using ID based
profiles. The Web solution can utilize both roaming profiles issued
on-line and ID based profiles.
Currently, SAKMS manages more than 90
Government of Canada departments and agencies.
