Where a disagreement arises between departments as a result of an interdepartmental settlement or lack thereof, the departments are to resolve the difference in a reasonably timely manner. Reasonableness depends to some degree on the amount in question, but it is expected that most differences should be resolved before the end of the accounting period, or at the very latest prior to the end of the current fiscal year.

The departments should discuss the issue and agree on how to solve the dispute. Where departments cannot come to an agreement and the amount involved exceeds $100,000, the Office of the Deputy Comptroller General of the Treasury Board Secretariatwww, will provide a dispute resolution service.
