Infrastructure Canada Program line

As part of our commitment to Canada’s growth and the quality of life of all Canadians, the Government of Canada launched a physical infrastructure program in 2000.

In partnership with provincial, territorial and local governments, First Nations and the private sector, the Infrastructure Canada Program (ICP) is helping to renew and build infrastructure in rural and urban municipalities across Canada.

The ICP's first priority is green municipal infrastructure – projects that improve the quality of our environment and contribute to our national goals of clean air and water. Priority projects target water and wastewater systems, water management, solid waste management and recycling. Other program priorities include local transportation, roads and bridges, affordable housing, telecommunications and tourist, cultural and recreational facilities.

To find out more about our partnerships, including those with provinces, territories and First Nations, please visit our Partners page.

The ICP is well underway and projects are ongoing across the country.

The Shared Information Management System for Infrastructure (SIMSI) is an innovative web-based system that supports the high standards of openness and transparency, due diligence and reporting demanded by Canadians. SIMSI was originally developed to facilitate the management of shared-cost projects among the three orders of government, under the Infrastructure Canada Program.

The system has enabled provinces, territories and municipalities to apply on-line for project funding, monitor project status and access benefits and payment information throughout the life of a project. It also allows Canadians to have access to announced projects via the Infrastructure Canada web site.
