Overview

The Government of Canada is working hard to enhance the role of Parliament and the proactive disclosure of information so that Canadians are better able to hold Parliament, their Government, and public sector officials to account.

To this end, the Government announced the mandatory publication on departmental web sites of travel and hospitality expenses for selected government officials (effective December 12, 2003); contracts entered into by the Government of Canada for amounts over $10,000 (with only limited exceptions such as national security); and the reclassification of positions.

The posting of contracts over $10,000 and the posting of the reclassification of positions are effective October 31, 2004, cover contracts and reclassification of positions since April 1, 2004.

The Treasury Board Policies on Internal Audit and Evaluation require that completed internal audit and evaluation reports be made available to the public with minimal formality. Infrastructure Canada provides summaries of its internal audits and evaluations at this web site.
