Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund

In its 2003 budget, the Government of Canada announced the creation of the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) to support smaller-scale municipal infrastructure projects aimed at improving quality of life or fostering sustainable development and economic development, particularly within smaller communities. This Fund also includes a specific component intended to meet the infrastructure needs of First Nations communities.

  • Better quality of life and more economic prospects for smaller and First Nations communities.

The Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund is jointly administered by Canada Economic Development and Quebec's Ministère des Affaires municipales et des Régions, which is the lead player in the program.
