Prime Minister TABLES REVISED CONFLICT OF INTEREST CODE
Prime Minister Paul Martin today tabled in the House of
Commons a revised Conflict of Interest and Post-employment Code for Public
Office Holders. The document is also to be tabled in the Senate by the
Leader of Government in the Senate, on behalf of the Prime Minister.
The Code establishes
general ethical principles and detailed provisions designed to prevent conflicts
of interest, as well as rules that govern post-employment conduct. The Code
applies to members of Cabinet and to all other public office holders.
The revisions serve
to strengthen the Code which the Prime Minister put in place in December, 2003,
and where appropriate, to harmonize its provisions with the Conflict of Interest
Code for Members of the House of Commons, which came into force on October 4, 2004
.
The Code is administered by the Ethics Commissioner,
who
has the dual role of administering the Prime Minister’s guidelines and those
that govern Members of Parliament.
Copies of the revised Code can be obtained from the
Office of the Ethics Commissioner or at the following address: www.strategis.ic.gc.ca/ethics.
