Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat (AAS) Privy Council Website Information

In keeping with the Prime Minister's commitment to work with Aboriginal Peoples on developing an agenda for change the Prime Minister created the Cabinet Committee on Aboriginal Affairs (CCAA). This committee is an integral to a renewed emphasis on focusing the government's efforts with respect to Aboriginal issues.

The Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat was created to support the CCAA on December 12, 2003 and provides critical analysis and advice with respect to articulating and promoting an integrated approach to a broad range of socio-economic, cultural and environmental issues affecting Aboriginal peoples. It is also responsible for managing major horizontal issues affecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities; and oversees the provision of secretariat services to the Cabinet Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and in the formulation and analysis of policy considerations.
