External Review of CIHR
As part of its commitment to accountability and transparency in delivering results to Canadians,
CIHR's Governing Council has commissioned its first External Review of
CIHR as a whole and of its thirteen Institutes. The purpose is to obtain rigorous, authoritative and objective advice on:
- how effectively CIHR is delivering on its vision, as outlined in the CIHR Act;
- to what extent, and in what ways CIHR has accelerated the creation of important new knowledge and its application for the improvement of health, a more innovative and stronger health care system and Canada's knowledge-based economy;
- whether there have been important unmet opportunities; and
- what the key opportunities are for the future.
Terms of Reference for the External Review of CIHR
An International Review Panel of 27 experts will conduct the review in February 2006 and report its findings and recommendations to the CIHR Governing Council. For the purpose of reviewing the 13 CIHR Institutes and their related health research areas, the Panel has been divided into 7 teams and will focus on these areas for the first two days of their review.
