CONVICTION FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF UNDERSIZED SCALLOPS

February 12, 1999


Charlottetown -- The Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Gulf Fisheries Management Region, today disclosed that Mr. Joe S. Papp of Murray River, Prince Edward Island, was found guilty for possession of undersized scallops contrary to Section 64 (1) (c) of the Atlantic Fishery Regulations. Provincial Court Judge Nancy Orr imposed a fine of $500 on January 21, 1999, at Georgetown, P.E.I.

The illegal offence took place on October 26, 1998, when Fishery officers sampling his catch, found the undersized scallops.
