DFO MEETINGS ON NEW LICENCE POLICY AND FEES SLATED FOR SCOTIA FUNDY
HALIFAX - Fishermen's representatives and organizations
are going to meet with officials from the federal Department of
Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) to be briefed on recently announced
changes to the DFO Licence Policy and increased licensing fees.
Managers from the three Scotia-Fundy fisheries management Areas,
with support from Regional staff, will invite industry representatives
to meetings in their respective communities during the next two
weeks to brief them on these issues and to seek advice on the
conduct of further consultations with industry on the changes
and their application in the running of the fishery from a practical
and local perspective.
Follow up meetings, to inform and consult with larger numbers
of industry members, will be set up on request, or as the need
is determined at this first round of meetings.
Those needing further information about these meetings should
contact their respective Area Manager's Office in Yarmouth, Sydney
or St. Andrews.
