DFO EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR DEVELOPMENTAL FISHERY HOPEFULS (Shrimp trap, and Rock & Jonah Crab)



HALIFAX - The Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) today announced that the application deadline for exploratory licences for the 1996 developmental shrimp trap and Rock and Jonah crab fisheries in Southwestern and Eastern Nova Scotia has been extended to May 3rd, 1996.

Because of a change to the eligibility criteria, all interested fishermen who potentially form part of the CORE fishery can apply.

Applicants are advised to obtain and review the appropriate Call for Proposals and Fishing Plan for the species they're interested in before they apply.

Applications must meet all requirements outlined in the Call for Proposals. Copies of both documents are available from the DFO Licensing Centers in Yarmouth and Sydney, N.S.

Accordingly, LICENCE DRAW dates for both the Eastern and the Southwest Nova licences have been postponed until Friday, May 17,1996.

The Eastern Nova Scotia draw will take place at the Nautical Institute in Port Hawkesbury, N.S. at 10:30 AM.

The Southwest Nova Scotia draw will take place at the Grand Hotel in Yarmouth at 10:00AM. For further information about the draws, please contact:
