DFO ANNOUNCES NEW AREA MANAGER FOR EASTERN NOVA SCOTIA
HALIFAX - James M. Wheelhouse has been appointed as the
new Area Manager for Eastern Nova Scotia in the Maritimes Region
of the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), effective
June 3, 1996.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Wheelhouse was responsible for
DFO's Scotia-Fundy fleet of ships, facilities, information management,
engineering and technical services. He has worked with DFO for
23 years and also has a broad base of experience with the Canadian
Coast Guard as well as several years service in private sector
shipping.
Mr. Wheelhouse is a Canadian Coast Guard College graduate (engineering)
and in 1988 he received the professional designation, C.I.M.,
from the Canadian Institute of Management. He also has a B.B.A.
from the University College of Cape Breton and in 1991 completed
his M.Sc. in Maritime Management in Maine, U.S.A.
As Area Manager for Eastern Nova Scotia (the geographic area extending
from Cape North to St. Margaret's Bay as well as the upper reaches
of the Bay of Fundy), Mr. Wheelhouse will play a lead role in
the development (in consultation with representatives of fishermen,
fish processors, aboriginal groups and other sectors of the fishing
industry) and delivery of management plans designed to conserve
stocks and maximize returns for the various fisheries.
