TUNA FISHING BY GULF NOVA SCOTIA LICENCE HOLDERS

Antigonish, N.S. - The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) advises Gulf Nova Scotia Area's tuna licence holders that the DFO Gulf Nova Scotia Area Office requires advance notification of their intentions to participate in the South West Nova ex-sector tuna fishery. This information is necessary to allocate, in an equitable manner, the limited number of tags available.

Those tuna licence holders interested in fishing in South West Nova must register their intentions, in person, by 4:00 p.m. on July 19, 1996 at the DFO Licensing Service Centre in Antigonish. Fishermen must also provide DFO with information on the vessel to be used in this fishery. Please note that no application will be accepted after this date.

As in past years, only those fishers who pre-register and report with their vessels to South West Nova before an established deadline will be permitted to participate in the ex-sector fishery.

The Licensing Service Centre is opened from 9:00 a.m. to noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. The Centre is located in the Antigonish Mall at 133 Church Street, Antigonish, N.S.
