ILLEGAL LOBSTER FISHING BRINGS BIG FINE



TRACADIE-SHEILA - The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Eastern New Brunswick area office in TracadieSheila, disclosed today that Melvin Martin, a BaieSainteAnne, N.B., area resident, was fined three thousand five hundred dollars ($3,500) for illegally catching lobster.

Mr. Martin was found guilty in Provincial Court in Miramichi, N.B. on May 17th, 1996 on a charge of possession of lobsters in a closed area contrary to Section 57(1)(b) of the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985. Judge Drew Stymest imposed the fine for the offence which took place on August 16th, 1995 in Lobster Fishing Area 23. The accusation was brought forward following an enforcement operation conducted by DFO Fishery Officers from Eastern New Brunswick.
