MONCTON - The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), announced today that the inshore herring fishery is closing in Areas 16C and 16E (Escuminac and Western Prince Edward Island) at noon on September 11, 1996. The Department estimates that a total of 7,000 tonnes of herring will have been landed by closing time. This compares to 9,357 tonnes landed in 1995.
