CLOSURE OF THE RECREATIONAL GROUNDFISH FISHERY

MONCTON - HALIFAX - The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Maritimes Region, has today announced that the groundfish recreational fishery in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence (4T) and in the Scotian Shelf east of Halifax (4VW) closed on September 17, 1996.

Consultations held this summer with representatives of charter boat operators and the fishing industry had resulted in the establishment of a season from June 21 to September 16, 1996 and a daily catch limit of 10 groundfish per person but only one Atlantic halibut.
