LEBLANC ANNOUNCES FLOATING WHARF INSTALLATION PROJECT FOR INVERNESS, NOVA SCOTIA
PORT HAWKESBURY -- Mr. Francis LeBlanc, Member of Parliament
for the constituency of Cape Breton Highlands - Canso, announced today
on behalf of the Honourable Fred J. Mifflin, Minister of Fisheries and
Oceans, that a floating wharf installation project will be carried out
at the Inverness fishing harbour in Nova Scotia.
The project consists of the construction of a service area, and the
dredging of the basin area in order to facilitate the installation of floating
wharves which were previously built by the fishers. The project is scheduled
for tender once an environmental assessment is completed. It is anticipated
that construction will commence by early November with completion scheduled
for mid-February 1997.
With the completion of this project, the fishermen of Inverness
will be provided with excellent harbour facilities from which to operate,
stated Mr. LeBlanc. This project is being implemented in support
of the Harbour Authority of Inverness which was formed at this location
in April of this year.
The work will be done under the Federal Government's Small Craft Harbours
Program, which provides and operates a system of harbours and facilities
throughout Canada in support of the commercial fishery.
