ILLEGAL LOBSTER FISHING CONVICTION

August 7, 1998


Antigonish -- The Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Gulf Nova Scotia Area Office, today disclosed that Francis Gerard Boyd of Morristown, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of undersized lobsters contrary to Section 57(2) of the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985, and one charge of fishing lobsters during a closed time contrary to Section 57(1)(a) of the same regulations. The illegal lobster fishing incidents occurred on separate occasions, June 1996 and July 1997.

Judge Stanley Campbell imposed a fine totaling $ 2952.00 on the three charges. In addition, the Judge ordered Mr. Boyd not to fish lobsters for the first two (2) weeks of both the 1999 and the 2000 seasons, for a total of four (4) weeks suspension.
