NOTICE TO ATLANTIC SALMON ANGLERS
1998 ATLANTIC SALMON ANGLING SEASONS

September 8, 1998

Moncton - The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) wishes to advise Atlantic salmon anglers that waters of the Restigouche River watershed in New Brunswick were closed to Atlantic salmon angling effective August 31, 1998, as per the Precautionary Atlantic salmon Management Plan for 1998.

The Atlantic salmon waters remaining open in New Brunswick are portions of the Chaleur and Miramichi Recreational Fisheries Areas in Salmon Management Zones 15 and 16. Anglers are advised to consult the New Brunswick Angling Summary for 1998 for seasons in these areas.

The Precautionary Atlantic Salmon Management Plan for 1998 requires anglers to cease fishing in the Chaleur watershed after catching their daily hook and release limit of two salmon or grilse, or their daily retention limit of one grilse.

Anglers fishing the Miramichi watershed must cease fishing after catching their daily hook and release limit of four salmon or grilse, or a daily retention limit of one grilse.

The season limit throughout New Brunswick in waters open to retention of Atlantic salmon is eight grilse.

Anglers are advised to contact a Fishery Officer for additional information.
