ILLEGAL LOBSTER FISHING CONVICTION

September 8, 1998


Charlottetown -- The Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Prince Edward Island Area Office, announced today that Mr. Daniel Joseph Kinnear of Georgetown, P.E.I., pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of undersized lobsters contrary to Section 57(2) of the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985. The illegal lobster fishing incidents occurred on June 19, 1995, where Mr. Kinnear was found in possession of undersized lobsters segregated from his catch.

Provincial Court Judge John Douglas imposed a fine totaling $ 5,000. In addition, Mr. Kinnear´s lobster license was suspended for seven (7) days at the start of the 1999 District 26A lobster season.
